Call for papers—Transforming Vocation 2019
We are excited to announce the inaugural Transforming Vocation conference, to be held 4–6 July at Morling College, Sydney. Mark Greene, Executive Director of The London Institute for Contemporary Christianity, will be our keynote speaker.
As evangelical Christians, we are convinced that every believer is called to serve Christ and his mission, and we are committed to seeing that call expressed in every aspect of life. However, for too long too many Christians have sensed that their calling at work is second best; and that pastoral ministry and missionary service are the vocations that really matter. We are convinced otherwise, as this conference proves.
The conference will provide an opportunity for participants to engage at the highest level in theological and practical reflection on the nature of work, the changing cultural and economic landscape in which we now operate as workers, and how churches and their leaders can more effectively equip their members to think well and live faithfully as workers.
The conference will have three themes: theology of work (focusing on Biblical texts, theological motifs and workplace ethics, and theology of the disciplines); practical theology (focusing on data and models of ‘best practice’ in pastoral ministry and workplace discipleship); industry and marketplace issues (focusing on the changing nature of work locally and globally and Christian responses to it).
Papers from graduate students, established teachers, thoughtful workplace practitioners and professional scholars addressing one or more of those themes will be welcomed. We anticipate that a selection of papers will be published in an edited volume.
Please submit a 200-300 word proposal, identifying your topic and how it addresses the conference themes by Friday, 1st March 2019, accompanied by an 80-100 word bio highlighting key publications and institutional location to Andrew Sloane (email@example.com)
We will inform you by Friday, 29th March 2019 whether your proposal has been accepted and, if so, the length of your presentation.
