We are excited to be embarking on Initial Teacher Education (ITE) in the form of a Bachelor of Education (B. Ed) for school leavers and a Master of Teaching (M. Teaching) for career changers and for those who have already completed a relevant undergraduate degree. Courses have been developed and accredited through another tertiary provider and will be delivered online in conjunction with the tertiary provider.

To commence as soon as possible, the Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Coordinator is responsible for ensuring positive in-school experiences within partnering hub schools and will be the point of contact and resolution of matters relating to the students’ experience in relation to their studies.

The role is part time, 3 days per week based at the Sydney Campus (0.6 FTE) and is set at Educational Services (Post-Secondary Education) Award Level 6-9 dependant on experience.

Key Responsibilities

1. Liaison

  • In association with the Dean, effective advocacy to Principals and schools of a partnership with Morling
  • Assists the Dean of Education in the establishment of hub schools to host practicum placements and provide in-school teacher supervision
  • Liaise with schools to set up and monitor practicum (student-teacher) placements

2. Administration

  • Organize appropriate visiting supervisors to assess the progress of students undertaking practicum placements, and the furnishing of progress reports
  • Organize pastoral supervision Enrichment Days on Morling campus and/or on school locations, to assist students in tutorials, face-to-face activities and in their progress through their courses
  • Sensitive resolution of any issues arising for students in their relationships with schools or supervisor

3. Pastoral

  • Support students' pastoral needs

4. Participation in the life of the College

It is expected that the Initial Teacher Education Coordinator will be part of the College community and will be involved in the life of the College across all campuses. This will include:

  • Attendance at staff team meetings
  • Attendance at chapel services
  • Involvement in College events and lunchtimes with staff and students

It should be noted that, while detailed, this position description is not exhaustive, the Principal and the Dean of Education may, at their discretion and in consultation, vary the responsibilities as required.

Essential Key Attributes

Qualifications and Experience

  • Recognised Tertiary Qualification in Education
  • Teaching and administrative experience in Secondary and/or Primary Schools

Skills, Character and Qualities

  • Demonstrated Christian character and active involvement in a local evangelical church
  • Alignment of personal values, beliefs and practices with the mission and Christian ethos of Morling College
  • Willing to sign and abide by Morling College Statement of Faith
  • Effective communicator and liaison between Morling College and partnering stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Strong work ethic, with an ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines, and to deliver on time
