Certificate in Theology - SRE Teacher Training
Special Religious Education (SRE) Training
Morling College is pleased to partner with the NSW/ACT Baptist Association in the training of current and future Baptist Special Religious Education (SRE) Teachers. Find out more about what’s required to become an SRE Teacher on the NSW/ACT Baptist Association website.
All enquiries about becoming a Baptist SRE Teacher should be sent directly to firstname.lastname@example.org. For those interested in becoming an SRE teacher for another denomination, please contact your denomination for their specific requirements and training pathways, as these may differ from the Baptist Association.
Morling offers 2 specific units of study, that are required for accreditation as a paid High School SRE teacher - please contact the Baptist Association, at the email address above, to confirm if these units are the right ones for you, before enrolling.
These units are offered in semester 1 and semester 2 each year - check the timetable schedule here. (Please see our Calendar for enrolment cut-off dates each semester).
- Teaching Faith in the Classroom – TCFC (offered in Semester 2 for 2021, due to COVID-related issues with the practicum component)
In this exciting new unit, you will develop specialised skills for teaching faith and Christian studies in contemporary secular classrooms. You’ll learn about the cultures and contexts in which the Christian faith is taught in government schools, the different ways students learn, and how to prepare and deliver lessons. This is a core unit for High School SRE teachers, and requires that you teach two Scripture lessons over the course of the semester. 1 day compulsory on-campus Intensive - date TBC.
- Introduction to Pastoral Care – IPC (Semester 2)
In this unit you’ll explore biblical foundations and best practices for pastoral care. You’ll form skills in caring for people in crisis situations, in referrals, and in providing competent care. You’ll develop an understanding of people in social relationships, and consider how best to provide care in a wide variety or situations and contexts. This is a preferred core unit for High School SRE teachers
COST: The fee for each of these two unit/s is reduced to $400, for those completing them for SRE Teacher Accreditation.
If you wish to complete these subjects in conjunction with a Certificate of Theology, please click here to view further information about the full ThC course, and other units available (normal ThC unit fees apply to all other ThC units)..
