Preaching in the Public Square
3 September 2018
The Bible is a text comprised of sixty-six books, each with different contexts, characters and lessons. In a world where Christianity is no longer the primary religion, how can we as a preacher draw out truths from such a complex text for an audience of both non-believers and believers?
We’d love for you to come and join us for two days of practical workshops, as we explore how expository preaching can be used by you – in the public square making the Bible accessible to all.
Monday, 3 September
9.30am – 5.00pm, 7.30 – 9.00pm
Tuesday, 4 September
9.30am – 5.00pm
PREACHING IN THE PUBLIC SQUARE
As our keynote speaker, John Dickson will be focussing on how expository preaching can function in a post-Christendom world. He will model and explain how preachers can guide a congregation through the biblical text in a systematic fashion, while at the same time taking into account the presence of non-believers in the audience and equipping believers to articulate a biblical faith in a pluralistic world. John will workshop a sermon in each session as he takes us through the first two chapters of Philippians.
PREACHING TO THE 21ST CENTURY CORINTH
The second focus of the conference will be on Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians. Four practical sessions will provide insights into how to exegete the cultures of first-century Corinth and twenty first century Sydney, in order to apply the biblical text more faithfully and powerfully to our own hearers.
