In this unit students will learn to identify the impact of loss and grief on individuals, families and communities and recognise the cultural appropriate expressions of loss and grief. Students will develop an understanding of the different models explaining the grief process as well as the methods to facilitate healing in individuals and groups who have experienced grief and loss. Students will also learn about the current theories and models for understanding and working with people and groups who have, or are experiencing crisis and psychological trauma. This will include the neurobiological, psychosocial and as well as socio-spiritual-cultural elements of trauma. Students will learn key counselling skills and methods to assess and work therapeutically with clients who are experiencing crisis and trauma. Prerequisites: CO701
