Christian Compassion in End of Life Care Seminar:

A Christian Response to Voluntary Assisted Dying

In today’s world, it often feels like the ground is moving beneath our feet, and we’re being asked to make sense of it in real time. Advances in medicine and an ageing population have brought new and complex questions to the forefront, especially around death, dying, and how we care for those at the end of life. These questions have been circling for years but have made a hard landing in Western Australia and other Australian jurisdictions with the legalisation of Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD).

It seems perplexing to many of us that laws which enable people with a terminal illness to end their lives are being brought into a system that makes such a concerted effort to support meaningful life for older and vulnerable people and to stop them dying. But should it? Is VAD a dangerous innovation that undermines the foundations of compassionate care and the practice of medicine? Or is it a compassionate response to suffering, one that grants people the dignity of choosing how their life ends?

If you’ve found yourself wrestling with questions like these, you’re not alone. Join us on Saturday 20th September for a thoughtful and compassionate seminar as we explore these challenges together from a Christian perspective.
