Date: 23rd June 2025 - 23rd June 2025
Time: 10am - 3.30pm
We all know the power of story. A well-told story conveys truth right to the hearts of listeners. We also know that the indirect form that stories take (among other things) makes them difficult to tell well. Jesus may have been able to get away with telling parables all the time, but what about those of us who preach today?
This workshop is all about telling better stories. We will cover things like what makes stories so effective, and yet, so difficult to tell, the features of effective storytelling, and how to tell better stories in our sermons; both for illustrative purposes and as the structure of the sermon itself.
Morling’s Preaching Skills Days are designed for regular preachers who want to refresh and refine their skills in preaching God’s word. For those wanting a deeper dive, this workshop is part of the unit, Preaching II (PC048), starting June 16 with the intensive running face to face between Jun 23 -26.
Marc Rader is a part-time faculty member at Morling College where he regularly lectures in Old Testament and Preaching. He is also the senior pastor at Gymea Baptist Church in the south of Sydney.
