Do you ever sense your congregation drifting off while you preach? That they're still thinking about your first point when you've moved onto the next? Or that your carefully-crafted piece of oratory has turned into a faintly-remembered conglomerate of mush by Monday morning?

OK, we all do. Focusing on the collective consciousness of a group - and keeping it - can often feel like herding cats! This workshop is all about taking them with you. It looks at just a few principles we can use to keep people focused while we preach and help them retain key points when they leave. We will cover aspects like a clearly signposted structure attention-getting introductions, inspiring conclusions, and effective illustrations.

Morling's Preaching Skills Days are designed for regular preachers who want to refresh and refine their skills in preaching God's word.

Tim MacBride is the Principal of Morling College, where he lectures in Homiletics and New Testament. He is the author of two books on preaching, Catching the Wave: Preaching the NT as Rhetoric (IVP, 2016) and To Aliens and Exiles: Preaching the NT as Minority-Group Rhetoric in a Post-Christendom World (Cascade, 2020). Tim previously served for 12 years as a pastor at Narwee Baptist Church, in the southern suburbs of Sydney.
