Exploring the new Morling College Ministry and Learning Centre

Friday 7th February 2020

When I first stepped into the new building here at Morling, there were still workmen all around, putting the place together. Now, when I walk in every day, it’s so easy to see how this space is going to be used throughout the years.

The auditorium has a wow-factor — so many people have already said “This is great!” when they see it for the first time. It’s easy to imagine what it will be like to have 600 people in that space, learning and growing in their faith as a community. Even better, the walls in the auditorium mean that we can create more intimate spaces with breakout rooms — it’s such a versatile space. It’s been great to see the onsite church using this space already as they meet here each Sunday!

As you make your way through the building it’s easy to see how it will come alive once the semester is in full swing. The library, in particular, is fantastic. The racks of books will be familiar to our Morling students, but now they can enjoy their study even more with a separate floor full of study nooks and lounge areas. It’s a space you can really make yourself at home in. Some students are already making themselves comfortable and taking advantage of the quiet before everyone starts class.

The new building will bring so many new opportunities. Not only for our students to study in a place that really feels like home (and looks amazing!) but as a space that facilitates all kinds of ministries and really does have a room for everything. We’re anticipating that a lot of groups will want to hire rooms here for conferences, seminars and meetings.

Being so close to the Metro, Macquarie Shopping Centre and Macquarie University means we’ll be able to host a wide range of events. It’s a space made for sharing and it has been fantastic to see it in action over the last couple of weeks — it will be even better when classes start back up and it becomes a hive of activity, learning and ministry.

My role here as concierge is to show people around the new building. It has been a pleasure to see both new students and old coming through the doors just to see what the new building is all about and it’s a joy to show it off to everyone. At Morling we also offer personalised Open Days where you can grab a tour of the campus and chat to staff to understand what studying at Morling will look like for you.
